Mit dem Auto baden gehen
Entwicklung, Geschichte und Technik der Schwimmwagen

René Pohl, Heel-Verlag, Königswinter ISBN 3893657029

This book describes over 120 different amphibious cars in technical data and pictures. The standard cataloge you should have in your amphibian library. Private boatlike prototypes from the beginning of this century to the high speed water performance vehicles of today.
Unfortunately it is German only, but even if you can read only the technical data tables and watch the pictures it is the greatest amphibious car data base you can get in the world!

Sadly this book is already sold out

Schwimmwagen
Pkw & Lkw

Hasso Erb, Motorbuch Verlag Stuttgart, ISBN 3-613-01165-4

Hardcover 1988, describes the wellknown amphibs like Amphicar, Ford GPA, VW Schwimmwagen, and most Trippel prototypes and some other cars. Half of the book contains the amphibious trucks like the DUKW, Toyota Suki, EWK Bison, Alvis Stalwart and several others.
Used to be the standard cataloge of amphibious cars & trucks before the book "Mit dem Auto baden gehen" came out. Still it is the second best book in that subject you could get. Unfortunately for you, it is also only in German and out of print.
But it can be found quite easy in German antiquarian bookshops. I am not sure, but I heard it is also available from Hugh Gordon Imports.

Der VW-Schwimmwagen
Typ 128 und 166

Dipl.Ing.E.Macho, private publishing

Tells the story of the VW-Schwimmwagen on 10 pages (German only). The rest is a picture collection of nice b/w quality. Mainly the pictures are from the Porsche archieve and show the Schwimmwagen during the war.
This original hard cover book is really hard to get, as it was printed privately and has no ISBN number. Meanwhile it is out of print anyway. But there is a paperback pirate copy out there somwhere of really bad quality, which is not worth the paper it´s copied on.

KdF-Wagen, Kübelwagen und Schwimmwagen im Einsatz

Hans-Georg Mayer-Stein, Karl Müller Verlag, ISBN 3-86070-861-9

Half-Safe
Across the Atlantic by Jeep

Ben Carlin, André Deutsch Ltd, 1955

Ben and Elinore Carlins voyage from Halifax to West Africa across the Atlantic ocean in an amphibious Jeep. This original copy contains some nice illustrations and photographs of ths incredible trip.
Fortunately the story is reprinted in Carlins second book "Half-Safe around the world" (look above).

La Tortuga
An amphibious journey from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego

Helen & Frank Schreider, Secher & Warburg Ltd. 1957

Helen and Frank Schreider and dog Dinah tried the Panamerican Highway even before it was built. They did the trip from the northest town of Alaska to the southest point of South America in a converted Ford GPA. Very interesting story. Hardcover copy includes couple of photos and illustrations.
Very hard to find! Better seek out for the copy below:

20,000 Miles South
A Pan-American adventure in a seagoing Jeep from the arctic circle to Tierra del Fuego

Helen & Frank Schreider, Doubleday & Company, Inc. 1957

This is exactly the same book as "La Tortuga", so see description above. Only some pictures inside have changed, because of different publisher. However this version is more easy to find, seemed to be printed in a higher number of copies.

The Drums of Tonkin
An adventure in Indonesia

Helen & Frank Schreider, Frederick Muller Ltd. 1963

This time the Schreiders and their dog Dinah were exploring  the Indonesian islands. That for they converted a second amphibious GPA into La Tortuga II. With that they did a lot of island hopping. The story itself is same impressive as all those adventure stories, but from the amphibious point of view it is a bit disappointing, as La Tortuga II is very much in the background and one picture only displays the unconvential vehicle.

Instead I recommend to seek out for the following back issues of National Geographic magazines:
October 1960, May 1961 and August 1962. Those contain the Schreiders journey through India and also through Indonesia to Timor. Of course the story is cut compared to this book, but in difference to the book many coloured pictures of La Tortuga II can be found in the articles.

Okavango

June Kay, Hutchinson & Co Ltd. 1962

June Kay with her husband, sons, pet lions, dogs, hens and cat explored the wild life of Africa in a wartime amphibious DUKW. Great adventure book!
Hardcover copy includes a couple of photographs, unfortunately the DUKW is not seen on them very often.

Everybodyduck
or family plan to Buenos Aires

Virginia Hamilton, McGrawhil book company,1962

Really funny and oddy story of Virginia Hamilton, her husband, her four daughters, three college boys and a dog, travelling from New York to Buenos Aires in an amphibious DUKW.
Hardcover, includes photographs and illustrations. Great story!

GMC - The Universal Truck
6x6 and DUKW

Jean-Michelle Boniface & Jean-Gabriel Jeudy, Haynes Publishing Group, 1990

This book was first published in 1978 in French language only. This english translated copy was published in 1990. It tells you the detailed story about the GMC truck of the US army, including approximately 30 pages about the amphibian version - the DUKW. Some very good shots of the hydrofoil DUKW - the Flying Duck - makes this book outstanding for any DUKW collection.

DUKW
2,5 ton 6x6 Amphibian

Jeff Woods, ISO Publications, 1978

Maybe the pre-brochure of "Duck in action"(see above). Many pictures, very detailed and lots of information about the DUKW. Even all dashboard plates are displayed.
Paperback, 72 pages!
