Why we drive on the Left

About us

Pool Car.

September 2009 and as summer comes to an end it's time to put away the 18ft swimming pool we have in our back garden to keep the boys entertained through the summer. I've built a solar heater and filter system for the pool so it only needs to be filled and drained once a year.

With the water drained (takes 3 days) the sun comes out and I have an idea. Through a combination of circumstances and a wet summer I have 22000 litres of water stored here, I also have a few hours spare, some bits of wood and, and the vital ingredient... An Amphicar.

Oh yes, it has to be done.

Pool is part dismantled and Amphicar driven in.

Sides are put back up and then it's a waiting game, pool takes about 48 hours to fill.

Half a day to take photos then another 48 hours to drain. Amphicar didn't take on a drop of water in that time, I'm quite happy to leave it floating overnight. Now the science bit, Amphicar weighs 1100 Kg so it displaces 1100 litres of water (I love Metric !) so even though it looks huge in the pool it is only taking 5% less water to fill it to same level.
