Why we drive on the Left

About us

Amphicar Picture Gallery

It's rain again.

It seems that Upton upon Severn now has a "100 year flood" about twice a year.

People in non-phibians are still silly enough to attempt to drive through flood water and inevitably then get stuck and create shipping hazards, very inconsiderate ! These are the latest pictures from New Street Lane in September 2008.

Upton floods

Not sure what car this is - luckily it had floated to the side of the shipping lane so was not in the way. Most modern cars don't actually sink, there is too much foam and trapped air in them, instead they "float" just below the surface of the water.

Upton floods

Same car a few hours later - the water had gone down a bit. It's front wheels are probably now touching the road, non-phibians float "nose down" because of the engine weight.

So what is/was it ? My guess is maybe a Peugeot 406 estate ?

I don't often use this route in and out of the water as sometimes 4x4s will see me and attempt to follow, their wash then causes significant flooding to the roadside properties. Amphicar is able to travel here very slowly (about 1mph) at an engine speed of 800rpm using the special first crawler gear and creates no wash at all. This is one of the features that makes Amphicar so good as a search and rescue vehicle.
